My work deals with loneliness and solitude living in a city. The pandemic has intensified this by dulling our senses. Sight, touch, hearing have all been minimized. It reminded me of being under water. Looking at Matisse's bathers and Hockney's swimming pools helped provide the imagery. I wanted bright, hopeful colors, but I also put the figure moving off the edges to create an uneasy claustrophobic feeling.
